Metrics That Matter
In the age of data, many African marketers track the wrong metrics. Follower counts and like totals might look impressive, but they don't always correlate with business success. Here are the metrics that actually matter.
Engagement Rate
Your engagement rate (likes + comments + shares ÷ followers × 100) tells you how actively your audience interacts with your content. A high engagement rate signals a loyal, interested audience.
Reach and Impressions
Reach: How many unique users saw your content. Impressions: Total times your content was displayed. Growing reach means your brand awareness is expanding.
Click-Through Rate (CTR)
What percentage of people who see your content click on your links? CTR measures how effectively your content drives action — the ultimate goal of marketing.
Conversion Rate
Of the people who click through, how many take your desired action? This could be making a purchase, sending a WhatsApp message, or signing up.
Cost Per Result (Paid)
For paid campaigns, track your cost per click, per lead, and per sale. Low costs indicate efficient campaigns; high costs signal needed optimization.
Share of Voice
How much of the conversation in your niche features your brand versus competitors? Monitor mentions and hashtags to track your brand's visibility in the African market.
